Comparisons were made with track coordinates given in advisories from the meteorological services of Japan (JMA) and the Philippines (PAGASA). In general, whenever the center position differed by more than 40-50 nm from JTWC's, an entry was made in the Remarks column. The 1-min avg MSW were taken from the JTWC advisories while the 10-min avg MSW were obtained from PAGASA's advisories if the storm was in PAGASA's area of responsibility; otherwise, they were gleaned from JMA's advisories or high seas forecasts. The estimates of central pressure were obtained from JMA's advisories. ************************************************************************* Storm Name: TD AKANG Cyclone Number: 01W Basin: NWP Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 98 JUL 07 1200 20.1 N 129.3 E 25 98 JUL 07 1800 20.6 N 129.1 E 25 98 JUL 08 0000 19.9 N 129.9 E 25 98 JUL 08 0600 20.0 N 129.0 E 30 98 JUL 08 1200 20.1 N 128.5 E 1002 30 30 98 JUL 08 1800 20.2 N 128.0 E 1002 30 30 98 JUL 09 0000 21.8 N 127.8 E 1002 30 30 PAGASA: 20.8 N, 128.1 E 98 JUL 09 0600 21.9 N 127.8 E 1002 30 30 PAGASA: 21.1 N, 127.7 E 98 JUL 09 1200 21.9 N 127.4 E 1002 30 30 PAGASA: 21.4 N, 127.0 E 98 JUL 09 1800 22.2 N 126.9 E 1002 30 30 PAGASA: 21.7 N, 126.5 E 98 JUL 10 0000 22.8 N 125.8 E 1002 30 30 PAGASA: 22.2 N, 125.6 E 98 JUL 10 0600 23.3 N 124.7 E 1002 25 30 PAGASA: 22.7 N, 124.9 E 98 JUL 10 1200 24.0 N 123.8 E 1002 25 30 PAGASA: 23.5 N, 124.0 E 98 JUL 10 1800 24.7 N 122.7 E 1002 25 30 PAGASA: 24.0 N, 123.0 E 98 JUL 11 0000 25.1 N 121.3 E 1002 25 30 PAGASA: 24.7 N, 122.2 E ************************************************************************* Storm Name: NICHOLE (9801) Cyclone Number: 02W Basin: NWP Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 98 JUL 08 0000 20.7 N 118.5 E 25 98 JUL 08 0600 21.4 N 118.5 E 30 98 JUL 08 1200 22.1 N 118.7 E 30 98 JUL 08 1800 22.6 N 118.7 E 35 98 JUL 09 0000 22.8 N 118.7 E 1002 35 30 98 JUL 09 0600 23.0 N 119.0 E 1000 35 35 98 JUL 09 1200 23.2 N 119.5 E 998 45 35 98 JUL 09 1800 23.1 N 119.7 E 998 45 35 98 JUL 10 0000 23.5 N 120.1 E 998 35 35 98 JUL 10 0600 23.9 N 119.7 E 998 30 35 98 JUL 10 1200 24.2 N 119.4 E 1000 25 30 98 JUL 10 1800 24.3 N 119.3 E 25 98 JUL 11 0600 22.2 N 119.0 E 25 Relocation 98 JUL 11 1800 22.5 N 118.8 E 25 98 JUL 12 0600 22.8 N 117.8 E 25 98 JUL 12 1800 25.1 N 118.1 E 20 Inland ************************************************************************* Storm Name: Tropical Depression Cyclone Number: 03W Basin: NWP Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 98 JUL 24 0000 24.5 N 146.7 E 1004 30 Information from JMA 98 JUL 24 0600 25.0 N 144.1 E 1004 30 " 98 JUL 24 1200 24.5 N 144.4 E 1004 30 " 98 JUL 24 1800 26.4 N 143.6 E 1004 30 " 98 JUL 25 0000 27.4 N 148.8 E 1004 25 30 JMA: 28.2 N, 142.3 E 98 JUL 25 0600 28.8 N 148.3 E 30 98 JUL 25 1200 30.9 N 147.2 E 30 98 JUL 25 1800 32.3 N 146.1 E 30 98 JUL 26 0000 34.6 N 144.8 E 30 98 JUL 26 0600 36.5 N 144.5 E 25 98 JUL 27 0600 41.1 N 146.6 E 25 NOTE: The system tracked by JMA from 24/0000 UTC through 25/0000 UTC does not appear to be the same system picked up at 25/0000 UTC by JTWC. ************************************************************************* ************************************************************************* SOUTH INDIAN OCEAN (SIO) - South Indian Ocean West of Longitude 90E NOTE: The tracking coordinates, 10-min avg MSW, and estimates of central pressure were obtained from the RSMC La Reunion's advisories, while the 1-min avg MSW were taken from JTWC's advisories. ************************************************************************* Storm Name: TD H49798 Cyclone Number: 01S Basin: SIO Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 98 JUL 20 0600 6.5 S 85.5 E 1004 25 98 JUL 20 1200 6.6 S 84.7 E 1004 25 98 JUL 21 0600 7.6 S 82.9 E 1004 25 98 JUL 21 1200 8.6 S 81.7 E 1000 25 98 JUL 22 0000 9.2 S 79.2 E 1002 25 98 JUL 22 0600 9.6 S 78.5 E 998 30 98 JUL 22 1200 9.7 S 77.7 E 998 30 98 JUL 23 0000 10.1 S 77.0 E 1000 25 98 JUL 23 0600 10.0 S 76.7 E 1000 30 25 First JTWC Advisory 98 JUL 23 1200 9.9 S 76.4 E 1000 30 25 Last Reunion Advisory 98 JUL 23 1800 9.6 S 76.2 E 30 98 JUL 24 0000 9.5 S 76.0 E 30 98 JUL 24 1200 9.2 S 76.1 E 30 98 JUL 25 0000 8.8 S 77.2 E 30 ************************************************************************* ************************************************************************* *************************************************************************
